We are excited to announce the beginning of midweek growth groups at Gateway.  The groups will meet in the homes of our members and bring Bible study right into the neighborhoods of our people.  The first two groups begin meeting on Wednesday, April 27. 

 

A typical growth group session will begin with prayer, perhaps the singing of a song, and then an in-depth (but not over your head) study of a passage or concept in the Bible.  The sessions usually last from 45-60 minutes.  While our pastors will lead the first two groups, the sessions will have a more informal feel than a church service. 

 

Meeting in the homes of members, contrary to the thinking of some, is not a new practice.  For centuries, the church has met in homes of Christians, especially in places where our faith was (and is) persecuted.  In the US and other nations where religious freedom became the rule, these meetings were phased out in favor of gathering together at the church building.  

 

For Gateway, establishing growth groups was a natural move; since we are in the process of selling our buildings, we wanted to be prepared to leave at a moment's notice.  This move allows us to do so and at the same time get back in touch with an ancient practice of the church.
